Students Show Off Their Style At The Designers in Toyland Fashion Show
At Fanshawe College, graduating students enrolled in the Fashion Merchandising Program are encouraged to participate in the Toyland Fashion Show. This year, dozens of students showcased their designs, but with a spin. Students were instructed to use found objects and trash in order to construct unique designs. The 'Toyland' theme has been seen again and again in fashion, but unlike fashion designers, students had limited budgets.
One student, Erin Champagne, was both a model as well as a designer in the show. She dressed a fellow student up in a suit covered in spray paint and added pseudo shoulder pads made out of Lego blocks. The innovative fashions were unveiled before a packed crowd. The models may not all have been tall and thin, but they had enough personality to light up the room. In fact, more than 200 students came out to participate in the Toyland Fashion Show.
Instructors say that the students involved coordinated every aspect of the event. Because the fashion show will make up a large portion of their final grades, it seems that some designers tried to outdo one another. The fashion show ended on a high note with all of the participating models/students coming out on stage and taking a bow. Their final grades will not be calculated for a few weeks, but from the look of things everyone should get an A+. An annual student fashion show is held every year at Fanshawe College, and the school's administrators say that boundaries are pushed with every graduating class.
