Donatella Versace Criticizes 'Celebrity' Fashion Designers

Years ago, the idea of a celebrity becoming a fashion designer was unconscionable, however, it seems that just about every singer and actress in Hollywood is trying to launch a fashion line. While some legendary fashion designers have been more than happy to get in on the action, Donatella Versace remains unmoved. In fact, she recently expressed her personal views on the subject and it is apparent that she views celebrity designers as no competition.

Donatella Versace was quoted as saying that celebrity designers lack both vision as well as creativity. When compared to the type of clothing that is produced by vetted designers, Donnatella stated that celebrities were unable to execute any type of vision. Considering the fact that this is the same woman that dresses some of the biggest stars in the industry, her words were powerful and dismissive.

Not even the likes of Victoria Beckham was able to get a break. Perhaps because celebrity designers frequently have teams of highly experienced and professionally educated designers working on their teams, Donatella doesn't think that celebs deserve to be celebrated for their collective foray into fashion. Donatella Versace's cutting words probably won't stop teen girls from buying clothing designed by Jessica Simpson, but her message does seem to echo what has already been stated about the future of celebrity designers.

They're somewhat of an anomaly, and occasionally celebrity designers can have a breakthrough or two, but the fact is that they probably won't be around for long. Celebrities tend to be as fickle as their fans, and as soon as the next big project comes along they will likely abandon their fashion careers.
