Young and aspiring fashion designer Campbell Dunn has extended his link with Marks and Spencer’s menswear department for a further 3 months, until the end of the year.
The 23 year old won the Scottish Fashion Awards Graduate of the Year award early on in 2011 and got the opportunity to work with the retail giant for 3 months in order to aid his design experience and gain some valuable insight into the modern fashion industry. However, Marks & Spencer bosses were so impressed with the young Scot that they have elected to keep him with the company until the end of the current year to further boost his experience and their own menswear department.

When museums began to lose money in the 1990s, François Colbert came to the rescue. The Canadian professor of marketing had just begun to explore the connection between art, fashion and money. The great masters had to figure out how to realistically portray the lines and folds of the fabric that their subjects wore in order to accurate recreate what they saw. Contemporary fashion designers have always looked towards art for inspiration, but it now appears that galleries, museums and even department store owners are using fashion exhibits to reel in customers.
Artist Daphne Guinness has had a long and successful career in the art industry, but she has just begun to explore the possibilities of fashion as art. Working with jewelers and other artists, Guinness has even launched her own fashion label. For what its worth, many consumers seem to respond positively to the idea of fashion as art. Well known fashion designers have had their clothing displayed in museums all over the world.
Although many designs not suitable for everyday life have been featured on the runway, the fact remains that fashion is meant to be purchased by shoppers. Intricately beaded gowns, painstakingly constructed shoes and elegantly designed outfits will always have a place on the catwalk as well as the clothing rack. The late Alexander McQueen was one of the few innovators that best embodied fashion as art, and it appears that there is nobody that will ever be able to take his place in the fashion world.

While Lady Gaga's crazy styles might have helped her to land on the top of the charts, it is highly unlikely that any of her fans would wear her styles outside of their homes. Even still, Lady G believes that she has what it takes to launch a riveting fashion collection. The pop star has a wardrobe staff on hand 24 hours a day to help her to pull of her versatile looks, but what would happen if she was left up to her own devices? There's a good chance that Gaga might end up looking like a train wreck, so it might be a bit premature for her to think that she is capable of becoming a fashion designer.
However, the folks at W magazine disagree. She has already written several fashion columns, but it is not really known if she is the sole author. Just take a look at the types of outfits that Lady Gaga wore before she hit it big. Bras and panties paired with high heels might pump up the crowd, but it certainly doesn't indicate that any effort was put forth.
The good news is that Lady Gaga is far too busy with her music to even think of launching a fashion line anytime soon. Of course, she could just tap a few up and coming designers and stick her name on the label, but that's just not her style. In a few years, when interest in Lady Gaga begins to wain, maybe she will take time out to work on her next big project.
